Yellowstone Highway lane closure to begin Sunday (April 9)
RIGBY - Starting Sunday afternoon (April 9), two lanes of Yellowstone Highway (U.S. 26) in Idaho Falls will be closed until the intersection at Sunnyside Road is rebuilt, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Two lanes of Yellowstone will be closed all summer to accommodate the construction, starting Sunday with the southbound lanes. The closure will be switched to the northbound lanes later.

Traffic will be two-lane, two-way, 24 hours a day, and two-way traffic will be maintained on Sunnyside. The traffic signal will be removed, and the intersection will become a four-way stop.

Motorists should expect delays, especially during peak hours, and consider using alternate routes along Rollandet (Fifth West), Holmes Avenue (5th East), Woodruff, Hitt (25th East) and York Road (65th South).

The speed limit on Yellowstone will be reduced to 35 mph through the work zone.

The construction is part of the Sunnyside Interchange to I-15B project, which includes the new intersection, a new bridge over the Snake River, a full interchange on I-15 at milepost 116 and a five-lane road connecting 33rd South, west of I-15, to Sunnyside Road.

Idaho Construction of Kimberly is the prime contractor on the $23 million project.
