Traffic shifting to new ramps at I-84/U.S. 93 junction
TWIN FALLS – Drivers can exit and enter eastbound Interstate 84 in a new manner beginning as soon as Tuesday (August 20), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. After the new traffic signal south of the I-84/U.S. 93 junction is operational, traffic will use the new eastbound on- and off-ramps.
Crews began constructing the longer ramps for eastbound traffic exiting and entering I-84 at the junction last spring. The old ramps and signal will be removed as reconstruction of the bridge approach continues.
The contractor now will begin constructing the I-84 eastbound bridge over U.S. 93 by placing the concrete highway surface, constructing approach slabs and adjoining roadway, and installing safety devices. An additional section of roadway will be constructed for northbound U.S. 93 traffic as it enters the westbound I-84 on-ramp. Construction is expected to be completed in October.
In addition to increasing the overall height clearance for U.S. 93 traffic passing under I-84, the expanded ramps provide additional space for turning traffic at the new signal, reduce speed variations on the ramps, and include space for any future development at the junction.
Western Construction, of Boise, is the contractor for the $11.8 million project.
