Line failure disrupts communication with ITD; most services restored

BOISE - Failure of a communication line Tuesday afternoon hampered the Idaho Transportation Department’s ability to receive toll-free telephone calls and make outbound long-distance calls.

Century Link, provider of telephone services to ITD, began repairs on the failed line Tuesday and continued working through the night. Most of ITD’s critical long-distance telephone capabilities have been restored using temporary measures.

Communication with county sheriff’s offices and assessors offices continues to function on a limited basis, enabling the processing of Class D driver’s license issuance, motor vehicle records requests, vehicle registrations and titles.

The only function still impacted, according to ITD officials, is the ability to process and issue commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs). Some inbound toll-free calls still may be affected.
