Vehicle escape ramp on Lewiston Hill will be improved starting Tuesday

LEWISTON - A project to improve safety for drivers coming down the Lewiston Hill on U.S. 95, north of Lewiston, begins Tuesday, Sept. 10, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Work crews will remove and replace material used to slow and stop runaway trucks and other vehicles at ramp 3, approximately one mile up from the bottom of the hill on the Lewiston side.

The two lanes descending into Lewiston will be reduced to one lane during the work. The project is expected to finish by Oct. 1.

The ramp work will provide drivers a safer escape if their vehicles have braking problems descending Lewiston Hill.

M.L. Albright & Sons Inc., of Lewiston, is the contractor for the $187,000 project.
