Public meeting Sept. 25 for 2014 replacement of Idaho 55 Lardo Bridge in McCall
McCALL - The 82-year-old Lardo Bridge on Idaho 55 at milepost 145 near the McCall City Park on the southwest shore of Payette Lake is scheduled to be replaced starting in 2014, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

A public meeting will be held Wednesday (Sept. 25) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Hunt Lodge (Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites) at 210 N. 3rd Street, McCall. The meeting is being held to discuss the project and gather input from the community.
The meeting is in an open-house format, so citizens are encouraged to attend any time during the three-hour period. Displays illustrating the proposed bridge design will be available for review. Project staff will provide information, discuss potential impacts, and answer questions regarding the new bridge on a one-on-one basis with the public.
The department is developing a conceptual design that maintains McCall's character, protects natural resources and preserves scenic amenities.
When completed, the project will:
• Replace the existing Lardo Bridge, built in 1931
• Replace roadway approaches to the bridge
• Provide bicycle and pedestrian facilities on both sides of the bridge
• Serve as a gateway to the city of McCall
The new bridge will accommodate one lane of traffic in each direction. The existing bridge is 200 feet long and 38 feet from one outside edge to the other. The new bridge will be approximately the same length, but may be up to 50 feet wide.
ITD will use a design-build method for this project. Design-build is a streamlined process in which the design team and construction team work together simultaneously. This method allows for innovative methods of construction and condenses the overall timetable for the project. Lardo Bridge is only the second design-build project in Idaho.
The design-build contractor is selected on “best value,” which evaluates the team’s qualifications, technical proposal, project delivery, construction time and cost.
