Highway construction to close secction of Idaho 64, beginning Tuesday (Sept. 24)
LEWISTON - A highway construction project on Idaho 64, between Nezperce and Kamiah, will require a month-long, 20-mile detour, beginning Tuesday (Sept. 24), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The closure, between mileposts 23 and 27, is expected to continue through late October. Detour signs at both ends of the project will direct motorists to an alternate route.

Rock blasting and crushing is planned as part of rebuilding a curve at milepost 27. The project also includes resurfacing the highway and replacing guardrail. Crushed rock from blasting operations will be used in resurfacing the existing road grade.

Cook & Sons Construction, from Whitebird, plans to work on weekdays but will not open the route to weekend or evening traffic until all work is completed. The contract amount for the highway improvement is approximately $428,000.
