Hillside repairs from Emmett irrigation leak that restricted Idaho 52 expected to begin Monday (Oct. 28)
EMMETT - Repair of the hillside next to Idaho 52 damaged by an irrigation canal leak this summer is expected to begin Monday (Oct. 28) and finish Nov. 15. The leak caused a washout and mudslide in early June.
Crews will use a mix of soil nails through a wire grid to hold back the hill that was washed out by the canal leak. The hillside will be treated with a shotcrete application (concrete shot through a hose onto the surface at high velocity).
Repairs by the contractor, GeoStabilization International (GSI), of Grand Junction, Colo., would have started Oct. 7 but were delayed by the federal government shutdown, which prevented crews from leaving a previous job site.
ITD will participate financially with the Emmett Irrigation District on the repairs, with the department contributing up to $65,000 to the work.
Restrictions have been in place in the area on Idaho 52 since the incident.
