Speed limit on U.S. 20 business loop (Yellowstone Street) in St. Anthony to be raised to 35 mph Nov. 5
RIGBY - The speed limit on the U.S. 20 business loop (Yellowstone Street) in St. Anthony will be increased to 35 mph starting next week, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Crews will replace signs on the half-mile stretch between North Bridge Street and Radio Road Tuesday (Nov. 5).
The adjustment stems from a speed study that shows the majority of motorists already travel at speeds faster than 30 mph, the existing speed limit. Studies show that setting the speed limit according to the 85th-percentile speed actually results in fewer crashes. Posted speeds supplement driver judgment of appropriate speeds and are the maximum allowed under favorable weather conditions.
The transportation department approved the speed-limit change Oct. 8.
Motorists should watch for highway crews during sign replacements.
Idaho State Police and local law enforcement officers will patrol the route during and after the change.
