UPDATE: Idaho 44 traffic shift postponed to Dec. 19
BOISE – Inclement weather has pushed back the Idaho 44 traffic shift to Dec. 19 (it had been slated for Thursday), but minor shifts of the traffic alignment near Idaho 16 this week will prepare for the opening of east- and westbound Idaho 44 traffic lanes.
Two lanes of traffic will be open for traffic traveling east or west, and there will continue to be turn lanes for northbound Idaho 16 traffic only.
This construction is part of the extension of
Idaho 16 between Idaho 44 (State Street) and U.S. 20/26 (Chinden
Boulevard), scheduled for completion in fall 2014.
Additionally,
crews will begin working on Chinden near the extension of Idaho 16 in
the coming weeks to prepare for construction at the south end of the
project.
Concrete barricades will separate traffic from most
construction activities, and flaggers will help to direct traffic as
necessary. Motorists are strongly encouraged to drive with caution
through construction zones.
The 2.5-mile extension of Idaho 16
over the Boise River, from Idaho 44 to U.S. 20/26, will not be open to
traffic until full project completion.
Concrete Placing Co., of Boise, and Idaho Sand & Gravel, of Nampa, are the prime contractors on these projects. Knife River Construction, of Boise, and Nampa Paving are two of the main sub-contractors for this work. The total construction cost is $38.94 million.
