Idaho 44 open; crews begin work on U.S. 20/26

BOISE – All east- and west-bound Idaho 44 traffic lanes near the Idaho 16 intersection are open, including turn lanes for northbound Idaho 16, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The new section of Idaho 16, north of Idaho 44, is scheduled to be in final configuration next week. The project is part of an extension of Idaho 16 between Idaho 44 and U.S. 20/26 (Chinden Boulevard), scheduled for completion this fall.

Construction and utility crews are working on the south end of the project at U.S. 20/26 near the extension of Idaho 16.  Concrete barricades will separate traffic from most construction activities, and flaggers will help direct traffic as necessary.  All construction schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.

The speed limit in the construction area is 45 mph. Motorists are strongly encouraged to use caution when driving through construction zones.

The 2.5-mile extension of Idaho 16 over the Boise River, from Idaho 44 to US 20/26, will not be open until the entire project is completed.

Concrete Placing Co., of Boise, and Idaho Sand & Gravel, of Nampa, are the prime contractors. Knife River Construction, of Boise and Nampa Paving are main sub-contractors. The total construction cost is $38.94 million.
