Pair of resurfacing projects on Idaho 21 scheduled to begin this summer

BOISE COUNTY - Approximately 18 miles of Idaho 21, from the Lucky Peak High Bridge to Robie Creek Road, and from Idaho City to Mores Creek, will be resurfaced in a pair of projects starting this summer. The resurfacing will provide a smoother, safer ride for motorists.

About 4.7 miles (milepost 17.3-22) of two-lane road from the High Bridge, at the turn to Spring Shores Marina, to the turn off to Robie Creek Road, will be resurfaced starting in mid-summer and extending to early fall. The work also will include repairs to the existing drainage system, some widening and replacement of substandard guardrail.

This is a Cement Recycle Asphalt Base Stabilization (CRABS) project. The work will consist of pulverizing the existing surface, adding cement, reshaping the material, compacting, and repaving. Traffic will be controlled with flaggers and pilot cars during the various stages.

Idaho Sand & Gravel, of Nampa, is the contractor on this 1.8 million project.

Another 13.3 miles (milepost 39-52.3), from Idaho City, at the ITD maintenance shed, to the Mores Creek Summit, will be resurfaced by Knife River Corp. NW, of Boise, in a $1.6 million project. This project is similar to the resurfacing done last summer from Mores Creek Summit to Lowman.

Crews will conduct pavement repairs, repair frost heaves and improve drainage. They also will mill the surface, trench across and along the road at various locations, seal cracks in the pavement surface and apply a seal coat to the new surface. This work will likely start in early to mid-summer and be completed by late summer. Traffic will be guided by flaggers and pilot cars.
