Intermittent traffic shifts on U.S. 20/26 start this weekend
BOISE – Traffic on U.S. 20/26 (Chinden Blvd.) will be shifted near the extension of Idaho 16 early next week, moving motorists to the south side and allowing for work on the north side of the highway, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. From tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 31) through Monday, motorists can expect intermittent lane shifts as crews prepare the area.
Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather.
Concrete barricades will separate traffic from most construction activities, and flaggers will help direct traffic as needed. The speed limit in the construction area will be 45 mph. Motorists are strongly encouraged to drive with caution through this and all other construction zones.
All east- and westbound Idaho 44 (State Street) traffic lanes near the Idaho 16 intersection are open, including turn lanes for northbound Idaho 16. The new section of Idaho 16, north of State, is scheduled for final configuration in early March as weather conditions allow. This construction is part of the extension of Idaho 16 between State and Chinden, scheduled for completion this fall. The 2.5-mile extension over the Boise River will not be open to traffic until the project is fully completed.
Concrete Placing Co., of Boise, and Idaho Sand & Gravel, of Nampa, are the prime contractors on these projects. Knife River Construction, of Boise, and Nampa Paving are two of the main sub-contractors for this work. The total construction cost is $38.94 million.
