Repair of I-84 light pole crash site will close some interstate lanes Tuesday morning
BOISE - The inside (left) lanes of eastbound and westbound Interstate 84 between Cole and Orchard will be closed Tuesday morning (Feb. 4) as Idaho Transportation Department crews repair the damage from a semi-truck crash earlier this week.
Work between milepost 50.5 and 51.5 will take place from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Crews will be replacing a half dozen 20-foot concrete barriers that were damaged in the accident on Jan. 28 when the semi crashed through the median barriers after striking a downed light pole and damaging a steering axle. The semi then crashed through a solid guardrail barrier, crossed over the center median to the other side of the road, and came to rest against the soundwall on the westbound side of the highway. The semi spilled diesel fuel onto the interstate in the location of the crash.
ITD’s Boise Maintenance responded to the accident to assist with traffic control and clearing damaged rail, broken concrete, the broken luminaire pole and other crash debris from the roadway.
Both the eastbound and westbound lanes of travel were blocked as crews worked to clear the scene. The eastbound lanes were blocked for about 1.5 hours, and the westbound lanes were blocked for approximately two hours.
The repair, performed by ITD crews, is expected to cost approximately $12,000, and be paid for by the insurance company held liable in the crash.
