Broadway Bridge project features new mobile-friendly website
BOISE – The Idaho Transportation Department has launched a new mobile-friendly website about the Broadway Bridge replacement project in downtown Boise.
The website – www.itd.idaho.gov/broadwaybridge -- allows visitors to watch videos, view design plans and give input about the new bridge from their smartphones, tablets or computers.
ITD Public Involvement Coordinator Adam Rush said the department plans
to roll out additional mobile-friendly websites in the next few months, such as the websites for the I-84 Meridian, Broadway and Gowen interchange rebuilding projects.
The Broadway Bridge crosses the Boise River near Boise State University. Construction will begin in late 2015. The new bridge will include more traffic lanes, wider sidewalks, bicycle lanes and improved access to the Greenbelt.
“We are looking for input about lighting, railing design, construction phasing and new Greenbelt entrances,” said ITD Project Manager Mark Campbell. “We’ll be taking these plans to the community for feedback this year during the design phase. The new website will play a major role in that process.”

The department announced its intent to rebuild the Broadway Bridge in mid-2012. After routine inspections, it was determined the existing bridge, built in 1956, was showing signs of wear. The structure also is too narrow for the high volume of cars, pedestrians and bicyclists that use it, particularly during events at Boise State University.
The next community design workshop for the Broadway Bridge Replacement Project will be scheduled later this spring. Details will be posted to the website.
