Closure of U.S. 12 is planned for Sunday afternoon
BOISE - There is a planned closure of the section of U.S. 12 between Milepost 100 and Milepost 161 starting on Sunday (Feb. 23) at 1 p.m., the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The weather forecast for the weekend is calling for up to 21 inches of snow. Since Monday, 31 inches of snow has fallen in the U.S. 12 area. Additional snow increases the chances of avalanches along the highway.
The section is from two miles east of Lowell to two miles west of Powell.
Travelers who plan on using U.S. 12 should visit 511.idaho.gov or call 5-1-1 for the latest information on closures and driving conditions.
