REMINDER: Replacement of failing pipe under U.S. 20 and Can-Ada intersection to cause lane restrictions
BOISE - Crews will replace an irrigation pipe under the road at U.S. 20 and Can-Ada Road starting tomorrow (Tuesday, March 4), resulting in lane restrictions at the intersection. The pipe is so badly deteriorated that replacement is necessary to eliminate the risk of it failing this spring and causing the highway to collapse, the Idaho Transportation Department cautions.
Click here for a picture of the pipe to be replaced.
Crews will be working on the replacement from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday (March 7).
The
existing 40-year-old corrugated metal pipe with a 45-degree bend will
be replaced by a longer, straight concrete pipe with a 36-inch diameter.
While crews are replacing the pipe, they also will augment the
irrigation headwalls, place additional gravel, and patch asphalt above
the pipe. In total, the repair is expected to cost approximately
$12,000, which will come from the department's maintenance budget.
U.S.
20 will be reduced to one lane during the work, with flaggers guiding
traffic. Traffic on Can-Ada Road also will use flaggers, but there will
be no lane restrictions on Can-Ada. Drivers can expect delays during
this work, and motorists are encouraged to use an alternate route if
possible.
ITD will use portable electronic message boards to alert drivers.
