Three more highways in north Idaho get spring breakup restrictions

COEUR d'ALENE - Three north-Idaho highways will be posted with weight and/or speed restrictions in the next few days, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The restrictions are designed to protect the road and travelers until warmer spring weather can solidify the road base.

The restrictions are as follows on the roads listed:

-  Idaho 3, from the junction of Idaho 97 to the junction of Interstate 90, will begin at 6 a.m. Thursday (March 6). For any vehicle 10,000 lb. Gross Vehicle Weight or over, the route is restricted to 30 mph and legal weight.
-  Idaho 57, from Coolin Bay Road to the end of the highway (milepost 22.5-37.2), beginning at 6 a.m. Friday (March 7). The route is restricted to 30 mph and 14,000 lbs. per axle.
-  U.S. 95, from the junction of U.S. 2 to the Canadian border, starting 6 a.m. Friday (March 7). The route is restricted to 30 mph and legal weights for vehicles.

This is in addition to the speed-limit restriction already in place on a 31-mile stretch of Idaho 41, from the junction with Idaho 53 to the junction with U.S. 2. That restriction has been in place since Feb. 20.
