Rolling closures planned along I-84 tomorrow, Monday-Thursday of next week

BOISE - Rock excavation in the median of Interstate 84 east of Boise near the Stage Stop will cause rolling traffic closures for the eastbound ramps at Broadway, Gowen, Eisenman, I-84 Rest Area, Blacks Creek and the East Boise Port of Entry.

The rolling closures will occur tomorrow (Thursday, March 20), skip Friday and the weekend, and resume Monday through as late as Thursday of next week.

The closures will begin approximately 11:30 a.m. each day at the Broadway Avenue Interchange. The rolling closure will progress east from Broadway. After the waiting traffic passes Broadway, the eastbound ramp will be reopened and the rolling closure will continue east. There should be minimal traffic impact, with 20-minute delays and most areas clear and back up to freeway speed by about 1 p.m.

A pilot car will guide eastbound traffic while crews clear I-84. The eastbound on-ramps will reopen when the pilot car reaches each interchange. Westbound I-84 also will experience rolling closures and delays from east of Simco Road to the blast site.

The rock excavation will eliminate basalt rock outcroppings in the median and reduce the severity of crashes.
