Media Advisory: Officer motorcycle teams will train in Meridian on Thursday
MEDIA ADVISORY: Police officer motorcycle teams from throughout the Treasure Valley will sharpen their riding skills during a spring refresher training April 3 at the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Academy in Meridian.
The media is invited to meet with motorcycle officers at the POST track Thursday (April 3) at 10 a.m. for a skills demonstration.
Police officer motorcycle teams participating in the spring training include:
- Canyon County Sherriff’s Office
- Mountain Home Police Department
- Garden City Police Department
- Nampa Police Department
- Boise Police Department
- Idaho State Police
- Meridian Police Department
During the training, a variety of exercises will be used to enhance and sharpen officers’ skills as they prepare to patrol Treasure Valley roadways. The refresher training also allows officers to hone skills to scan for threats, identify anything they need to avoid, determine if and when they need to act, and act safely.
Officers will practice skills like braking, scanning, splitting lanes and riding off sidewalks or curbs. For example, motorcycle officers might be observed by the public riding between stopped traffic or being on sidewalks as part of their duties.
The portion of the training session set aside for the media is an opportunity to help educate people about how police motorcycle officers contribute to traffic safety.
Date & Time: Thursday, April 3, at 10 a.m.
Location: Idaho Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST)
700 South Stratford Drive
Meridian, Idaho
