Replacement of McCall's Lardo Bridge nears as Wadsworth and Lochner selected for Design-Build

BOISE – The replacement of the 83-year-old Lardo Bridge on the southwest shore of Payette Lake is one step closer to beginning. The team of Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction and Lochner was selected by the Idaho Transportation Department on March 27 as the design-build firm for the upcoming $3.64 million project.

Wadsworth and Lochner will use ITD’s conceptual design to complete the bridge design. When completed, the project will accommodate one lane of traffic in each direction, replace roadway approaches to the bridge and provide bicycle and pedestrian facilities on both sides of the bridge.

Although construction is not expected in earnest until this fall, some preliminary construction activities are expected to begin in May and continue through the summer. These preparatory activities will take place all summer, but impacts to the traveling public will be minimized as much as possible.

ITD will coordinate with the city of McCall as project design progresses.

Design-build is a streamlined process in which the design team and construction team work together simultaneously. This method allows for innovative methods of construction and results in quicker project completion. The Lardo Bridge replacement is only the second design-build project in Idaho.
