Idaho 50 turn-lane work begins today
TWIN FALLS – Work begins today (Monday, April 14) to construct an acceleration lane for traffic turning north onto Idaho 50 from 3800 East Road north of Hansen, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The construction will slow traffic through the work zone for approximately one month.
The acceleration lane is being constructed on the east side of the highway between 3800 East Road and the Hansen Bridge. The new lane will allow traffic to accelerate to highway speeds before merging into the northbound lane.
A high number of rear-end crashes that occur after vehicles turn north from 3800 East Road prompted the new lane's construction. The roadway is a popular cut-off route for vehicle and truck traffic between U.S. 30 in Hansen and Interstate 84 via the Hansen Bridge.
Traffic will be slowed to 45 mph through the construction zone. Flaggers may be present during work hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Idaho Sand and Gravel, of Jerome, is the contractor for the $195,000 project. Work is expected to be completed by mid-May.
