Eastbound I-84 closed at Broadway interchange Tuesday night for girder placement

BOISE – Eastbound traffic on Interstate 84 will be detoured across the Broadway interchange Tuesday night (April 22) while the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) places girders for the new interchange bridge. Westbound I-84 will remain open.

Additional eastbound girders will be placed later in the project. Westbound girders will be placed in early May.

The detour will begin at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and end at 5 a.m. the following morning, Wednesday (April 23). Drivers will exit eastbound I-84 at the Broadway interchange. Flaggers will direct interstate traffic across Broadway Avenue and back onto the eastbound I-84 on-ramp.

The closure will allow crews to set five concrete girders for the new bridge over I-84. ITD is replacing the current bridge and ramps with an interchange that will accommodate more traffic.

Broadway interchange construction began in March and will continue until late 2015. ITD encourages drivers to slow down and pay attention in the work zone. The Gowen interchange and I-84 also are under construction.

The speed limit is 55 mph on I-84 and 25 mph on Broadway Avenue.

Concrete Placing Co. Inc., of Boise, is the contractor on this $26.7 million project.
