REMINDER: Girder placement will close westbound I-84 at Broadway tonight
BOISE –Westbound traffic on Interstate 84 will be detoured across the Broadway interchange tonight (Tuesday, May 6) while the Idaho Transportation Department places five concrete girders for the new interchange bridge.
The westbound detour will begin at 8:30 p.m. tonight and end at 5 a.m. Wednesday. Eastbound I-84 will remain open.
Drivers will exit westbound I-84 at the Broadway interchange. The traffic signal will be reprogrammed to direct traffic across Broadway Avenue and back onto the westbound I-84 on-ramp.
Project Engineer Dana Weiss said the overnight operation is the second of four girder placements in the Broadway interchange reconstruction project.
Additional girders will be placed for the west half of the bridge in the fall.
ITD is replacing the current bridge and ramps with an interchange that will accommodate more traffic.
The project began in March and will continue until late 2015.
ITD encourages drivers to slow down and pay attention in the work zone. The speed limit is 55 mph on I-84 and 25 mph on Broadway Avenue.
Concrete Placing Co. Inc., of Boise, is the contractor on the $26.7 million Broadway interchange project.
