Work begins next week on I-84 between Meridian and Five Mile with nighttime delays
MERIDIAN – The Idaho Transportation Department will begin a project to rebuild the outside lanes and shoulders in both directions on Interstate 84 between Meridian and Five Mile roads. As part of this project, the inside lanes will be improved and the storm-drain system in the median replaced. The work will be finished in late 2015.

Overnight lane restrictions will begin Monday night (May 12). I-84 will be reduced to two lanes in both directions from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Meridian and Five Mile roads. Lane restrictions will continue until 7 a.m. on weekends.

Four lanes will be open in both directions during the day.

The first phase of work is to rebuild the storm-drain system in the I-84 median. Future phases include rebuilding the outside two lanes and shoulders, and resurfacing the inside two lanes.

Motorists can expect ongoing lane restrictions and speed-limit reductions throughout the work.

“We’ll need to make several changes to traffic patterns over the next several months,” said ITD Project Engineer Jayme Coonce. “Please remember to leave early, slow down and pay attention when you’re driving through the work zone.”

Coonce said the storm-drain replacement would be finished in August. All of the I-84 improvements between Meridian and Five Mile are expected to be completed by late 2015.

The improvements are part of the $50.8 million project to rebuild the Meridian interchange and improve I-84 in the area. Concrete Placing Co. Inc., of Boise, is the contractor.
