Idaho 24 paving near Rupert begins this week
RUPERT – Roadway resurfacing work is expected to begin this week on a stretch of Idaho 24 between Interstate 84 and Rupert, beginning with roadway rebuilding near a railroad crossing, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Crews are beginning work to rebuild the approach pavement at the railroad crossing near the 200 South Road intersection today (Thursday, May 15). The rail crossing was replaced in April by Eastern Idaho Railroad in preparation for the asphalt overlay project beginning next week.
The contractor will be completing an asphalt test strip on Saturday and, with a passing test strip, the paving project between the I-84 on- and off-ramps at Exit 211 and the Rupert south city limit will
begin Tuesday (May 20). A seal coat of the roadway will follow in late June or early July.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction during paving. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution through the construction zone. Drivers also are reminded to watch for construction equipment entering and exiting the work area and to be cautious of uneven pavement until the conclusion of the project.
Western Construction Inc., of Boise, is the contractor for the $1.47 million roadway maintenance project.
