Overnight lane restrictions, grinding noise expected on I-84 between Meridian and Eagle

MERIDIAN – The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) has begun grinding concrete on Interstate 84 between the Meridian and Eagle interchanges to prepare the freeway for new pavement in the area.

The grinding work will be done at night, allowing ITD to keep all four lanes open on I-84 during the day to reduce the impact to traffic. This work is very noisy.

The grinding work will begin Sunday night (May 18) and is expected to last approximately a week. Expect overnight lane- and speed-limit reductions. All lanes will be open during the day. Overnight work hours are from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. during the week, and 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekends.

This work will improve I-84 between Meridian and Five Mile roads. When construction is finished, the outside lanes will be rebuilt, repaved, and the the inside lanes improved. The storm-drain system also will be replaced in the median.

Motorists can expect ongoing lane restrictions and speed-limit reductions throughout the work.

The improvements are part of the $50.8 million project to rebuild the Meridian interchange and improve I-84 in the area by late 2015. Concrete Placing Co. Inc., of Boise, is the contractor.
