Semi strikes overpass west of Burley, I-84 detour in place

BURLEY - A semi-truck crashed into a median pillar supporting the 850 West Overpass at milepost 205.5 on Interstate 84 west of Burley at approximately 5 a.m today (Friday, June 13), killing the driver and causing an interstate closure.

The crash has caused an indefinite closure of 850 West Road.

Westbound traffic is being routed off the freeway at Exit 208, through the city of Paul, and back on the freeway at Exit 201 using Idaho 27 and Idaho 25.

Only westbound interstate traffic is restricted at this point, but the eastbound side also will be closed in a few hours as a safety precaution when the truck is extracted from the pillar it impacted.

Idaho State Police continues its investigation into the crash. There have been no other injuries or fatalities reported.

The same overpass was hit approximately three years ago in the westbound lanes and closed for about a year until it was repaired.
