Eastbound I-84 off-ramp at Broadway will gain new lane next week
BOISE – The Idaho Transportation Department will open an additional lane on the eastbound Interstate 84 off-ramp at the Broadway Avenue Interchange Monday night (June 23) after crews restripe the interstate for the next phase of construction.
Westbound I-84 will be restriped Sunday night and eastbound I-84 will be restriped Monday night. After Monday, the middle and outside lanes of eastbound I-84 will have the option to exit at the Broadway interchange.
“This ramp tends to back up in the afternoons, and we looked for a way to temporarily alleviate the problem,” said ITD Project Engineer Dana Weiss. “We found a way to add more pavement in this area and improve traffic flow for a few months.”
The new striping pattern will move traffic slightly toward the outside shoulders while crews work in the I-84 median. Drivers may expect nighttime lane restrictions on I-84. Shoulders will be reduced in some areas. All lanes will be open during the day (5 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. during the week and 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekends).
The new exit lane will be in place until September, when motorists will begin using a temporary ramp.
Concrete Placing Company, of Boise, is the contractor for the $26.7 million reconstruction project.
Please plan ahead for local road closures during blasting at the Gowen interchange this summer. During blasting, I-84 and the Gowen interchange will close for two to four hours. Southbound Broadway Avenue will be closed and all lanes on Broadway will be used for I-84 detour traffic. Blasting dates will be announced in advance at www.itd.idaho.gov/Goweninterchange.
