Summer-long construction begins on Eagle Road between Franklin Road and I-84 Sunday night
MERIDIAN – Next week, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) will begin construction of a new southbound lane on Eagle Road between Franklin Road and Interstate 84. Construction will begin the night of Sunday (July 6) and is expected to be complete by mid-September.
Within the next 20 years, traffic on Eagle Road is projected to double,
from approximately 40,000 to more than 80,000 vehicles per day. When
complete, this project will help relieve congestion, increase capacity
and enhance safety on this important corridor.
The majority of construction will occur overnight, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. At night, lanes will be restricted on southbound Eagle Road between Franklin Road and I-84. At least one lane in each direction will remain open during the overnight work. Work that does not interrupt traffic may take place during daylight hours.
In general, access to businesses and residences will remain open throughout construction. Eagle Road will remain open at all times.
During construction, residents living near the work zone may expect to hear noise at night from jack hammering, backup alarms, excavation of concrete and other activities.
The speed limit will be reduced to 40 mph in the work zone when lane closures are in effect. ITD asks motorists to please slow down, pay attention and plan extra time for delays.
In addition to building a third southbound lane, the project will include adding sidewalk, curb and gutter on the west side of Eagle Road from Franklin Road to I-84. New traffic-signal heads and pedestrian-crossing buttons will be installed at the intersections of Franklin Road, E. St. Luke’s Road and I-84.
Idaho Sand & Gravel, of Nampa, is the contractor on this $1 million project.
