Blasting continues tonight at Gowen; I-84 crossover and bridge demolition scheduled this weekend
BOISE – The Idaho Transportation Department reminds drivers that construction at the Interstate 84, Gowen Road Interchange will intensify over the next several days. Nightly closures are scheduled tonight (Wednesday, July 9) through Saturday night (July 12).
• The eastbound off-ramp and westbound on- and off-ramps will close tonight (July 9) from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. as blasting continues near the interchange. I-84 and Gowen Road will close from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Click here for a map of the blasting detours.
• The westbound off-ramp will close from 8 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday while crews place guardrail and re-stripe the area.
• Westbound I-84 has been restricted to one lane from the Eisenman Interchange to just west of the Gowen interchange. By Friday, I-84 will be reduced to one lane in both directions 24/7 and 12-foot width restrictions will be in effect. Eastbound traffic must use a dedicated lane to exit I-84 at Gowen Road. Detour routes will be posted for over-width vehicles.
• Gowen Road and the eastbound I-84 on- and off-ramps will close Friday and Saturday nights (July 11 and 12) while crews remove the eastbound I-84 bridge over Gowen Road. The closures will begin at 8 p.m. and end at 7 a.m. Click here for a map of detour routes during the bridge demolition this weekend.
“Earlier this week, ITD opened half of the Broadway interchange new bridge and demolished the old bridge,” said Merrill Sharp, ITD project manager. “The bridge demolition and traffic detours at Broadway went very smoothly, and we anticipate the same for the planned work at Gowen this weekend.”
Exact closure dates, road closures and detour maps will be posted on digital message boards and online at www.itd.idaho.gov/GowenInterchange. To sign up for email alerts about closures, visit the websites, email comments@itd.idaho.gov or call (208) 334-8005.
ITD is replacing the Broadway and Gowen interchanges and adding a third lane on I-84 between the interchanges. Both projects will add capacity and help reduce traffic congestion. Construction will be complete in late 2015.
Concrete Placing Company and Knife River Corporation, both of Boise, are the contractors for the I-84,
Broadway and Gowen interchange projects in east Boise.
