Evening rock blasting, I-84 closures resume tonight (July 14) near Gowen
BOISE – Evening Interstate 84 detours will resume tonight (Monday, July 14) and continue this week in east Boise as the Idaho Transportation Department blasts rock at the Gowen Road Interchange construction site. Each evening will require road closures in the project area.
On Monday and Tuesday nights, Gowen Road will close between Federal Way and Eisenman Road. Click here for a map of the detours Monday and Tuesday.
On Wednesday and Thursday nights, Gowen Road and I-84 will both close. Traffic will be detoured off I-84 at the Broadway and Eisenman interchanges and re-routed down Federal Way. Click here for a map of the detours Wednesday and Thursday.
The on- and off-ramps at the Gowen Interchange will close intermittently each night until 5 a.m. Detour routes will be posted on message signs throughout the construction area.
Blasting allows ITD to remove basalt rock from the interchange area, making room to reconstruct the ramps and roadway. ITD estimates that 100 truckloads per day are hauled from the construction site – a total of 1,600 truckloads to date.
ITD is replacing the I-84, Gowen Road Interchange with one that accommodates additional traffic and lanes on I-84. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2015. The majority of blasting will be completed over the summer.

Knife River Corporation, of Boise, is the contractor for the $27 million project.
