Update on east Boise blasting and I-84 detours for week of July 21-24
BOISE – Traffic on Interstate 84 will be detoured in east Boise Monday through Thursday (July 21–24) as the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) continues to blast rock at the Gowen Road Interchange.
Interstate and local road closures in the project area will be required each evening. Message boards have been placed throughout the area to alert motorists of the detour routes.
During blasting, I-84 and the Gowen Road Interchange will be closed in the evening from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Intermittent ramp closures at the interchange will continue until 5 a.m. Gowen Road also will close between Federal Way and Eisenman Road. All traffic will detoured off I-84 at the Broadway and Eisenman interchanges and onto Federal Way. Flaggers will direct traffic during detours, which are anticipated to be in place between two and four hours.

The work-zone speed limit is 25 mph on Gowen Road, 55 mph on I-84 and 45 mph on the Gowen interchange eastbound exit lane.

The hard rock needs to be removed as part of constructing the new I-84 Gowen Interchange. ITD is replacing the Gowen Road Interchange with one that accommodates additional traffic on I-84 and Gowen Road. Additional blasting will be scheduled in spring of 2015.
Construction is expected to be completed in late 2015. Knife River Corporation, of Boise, is the contractor for the $27 million project.
