New restrictions begin Wednesday night on Meridian Road, westbound I-84
MERIDIAN – New lane restrictions take affect at 10 p.m. Wednesday (July 23) on westbound Interstate 84 and southbound Meridian Road, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Crews will reduce westbound I-84 to three lanes between Meridian and Five Mile roads, and remove a left-turn lane from southbound Meridian Road at Overland Road.
The I-84 restrictions are part of a project to rebuild the two outside lanes, which were constructed in the late 1960s.
Restrictions on Meridian Road will allow ITD to build a retaining wall
and widen the road to three lanes in both directions. Restrictions on
I-84 are necessary to provide room to accommodate construction equipment and material delivery for rebuilding the storm-drain system and pavement.
Eastbound I-84 has been restricted to three lanes since July 10. These lane restrictions will be in effect around the clock until this winter, when winter weather arrives and it gets too cold for crews to work. At that time, the highway will return to four lanes in each direction until the following spring, when the reduction to three lanes will be reinstated.
The transition will begin at 10 p.m. Wednesday and be complete by 5 a.m. Thursday. Drivers can expect additional lane restrictions during the night while crews re-stripe and place guardrail.
“We expect restrictions to cause intermittent delays for traffic. ITD urges everyone traveling in the area to leave early; and please remember to slow down and pay attention when driving through the work zone,” said ITD Engineer Jayme Coonce.
