Westbound I-84 reduced to three lanes between Meridian, Five Mile roads starting tonight
MERIDIAN--The Idaho Transportation Department will reduce westbound Interstate 84 to three lanes between Meridian and Five Mile roads overnight tonight (Wednesday, July 23). The change will be in effect for the Thursday morning commute.

The restrictions are part of a project to rebuild the two outside lanes of I-84, which were constructed in the late 1960s.

The lane closures are necessary to provide room to accommodate construction equipment and material delivery for rebuilding the storm drain system and pavement.

The restrictions will cause intermittent delays for traffic said ITD Project Engineer Jayme Coonce. ITD reminds everyone traveling on I-84 to leave early; and when driving through the work zone, please remember to slow down and pay attention.

The lane restrictions from Meridian to Five Mile will be in effect around-the-clock until this winter, when the weather gets too cold for crews to work. In the winter, this stretch of I-84 will return to four lanes. Next spring, when weather gets warm enough for crews to continue work, I-84 will be restricted again to three lanes for the duration of the project, which is expected to be complete in late 2015.

Restrictions on eastbound I-84 began July 10.

Concrete Placing Company, of Boise, is the contractor for the $50.8 million project to rebuild I-84 and replace the I-84, Meridian Interchange.
