I-84 will close at Meridian Road Interchange Sunday and Monday nights (Aug. 3-4)
MERIDIAN – Interstate 84 traffic will be detoured across the Meridian Road Interchange on Sunday and Monday nights (Aug. 3 and 4) during work on the new interchange bridge, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Westbound I-84 will close Sunday night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday. Eastbound I-84 will close Monday night to Tuesday morning during the same hours. During the closures, traffic will exit and re-enter I-84 using the interchange ramps. Flaggers will direct traffic through the detour route.
The Sunday night detour will include closing the eastbound “loop” on-ramp on southbound Meridian Road. During the ramp closure, flaggers will direct traffic to the eastbound on-ramp on northbound Meridian Road.
The overnight detours will allow construction crews to place concrete girders across the new west side of the interchange bridge. ITD is replacing the interchange with one that accommodates additional lanes on I-84 and Meridian Road.
I-84 has been reduced to three lanes in both directions between Meridian and Five Mile roads. Drivers can expect additional lane restrictions at night (10 p.m. to 5 a.m., and until 7 a.m. on weekends).
Concrete Placing Company, of Boise, is the contractor.
The $50.8 million project includes rebuilding the outside lanes of I-84 between Meridian and Five Mile roads and improving the inside lanes and storm-sewer system.
