Bridge repairs to 850 West Road overpass begin Monday
BURLEY – Work will begin Monday (Aug. 4) to repair the 850 West bridge over Interstate 84 in western Minidoka County, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Work is expected to finish in late August.
Repairs are being completed following a June 13 fatal crash of a semi-truck that drove off the roadway, leveled about 200 feet of guardrail, destroyed a concrete bridge pier and cracked a bridge pier cap. The bridge has since been supported by temporary wooden columns, and the 850 West roadway has been closed to all traffic at the structure since the crash.
During the replacement of the pier and repair of the pier cap, the roadway will be reduced to one lane and a 65-mph speed restriction will be in effect through the work zone.
ITD initiated an expedited contracting process to complete repairs and open the roadway. The initial cost of repairs will be state-funded, until the cost is recovered from the driver’s insurance. The damaged guardrail was replaced in June.
Braun-Jensen Inc., of Payette, is the contractor for the approximate $200,000 project.
