REMINDER: I-84 will close at Meridian Road Interchange tonight for bridge girders
MERIDIAN – Eastbound I-84 traffic will be detoured across the Meridian Interchange from 10 p.m. tonight (Monday, Aug. 4) to 5 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 5) during work on the new interchange bridge, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Westbound girder placement occurred last night.
During the closure, traffic will exit and re-enter I-84 using the interchange ramps. The detour will include closing the eastbound “loop” on-ramp on southbound Meridian Road. The other eastbound on-ramp will remain open. Flaggers will direct traffic through the detour route.
The overnight detour will allow construction crews to finish placing concrete girders across the new west side of the interchange bridge. The process began Sunday night. ITD is replacing the interchange with one that accommodates additional lanes on I-84 and Meridian Road.
I-84 has been reduced to three lanes in both directions between Meridian and Five Mile roads. Drivers can expect additional lane restrictions at night (10 p.m. to 5 a.m., and until 7 a.m. on weekends).
Concrete Placing Company, of Boise, is the contractor. The $50.8 million project includes rebuilding the outside lanes of I-84 between Meridian and Five Mile roads and improving the inside lanes and storm-sewer system.
