Work starts Monday on U.S. 89 East Bridge project
BOISE - A project to replace the U.S. 89 East Bridge over Ovid Creek will begin Monday (Aug. 11), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The East Bridge will be replaced with a wider bridge. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. Work will not occur during the Labor Day weekend, or the day of the Lotoja bike race.
One 12-foot lane of the bridge will be open at all times. The speed limit in the construction zone will be reduced to 25 miles per hour, and a traffic light will direct vehicles across the one open lane.
The bridge replacement project will include restoration of wildlife habitat at the transportation department’s Dingle Pond quarry site that is south of Montpelier. The restoration work is being done to offset wetland habitat that is needed for the bridge replacement project.
Access to Dingle Pond will be maintained during the bridge project. However, temporary closures for safety will occur during work that requires the use of heavy equipment. Most of the earthwork for Dingle Pond will finish by the fall of 2014, with additional vegetation being planted in 2015.
