Mudslide with debris plugs culvert, closes Idaho 21 north of Idaho City
BOISE - Debris flowing from a mudslide plugged a culvert and overran the highway about seven miles north of Idaho City yesterday evening, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The route remains closed.
The degree to which the roadway shoulder had eroded and roadway base undermined was unknown last night, leading to a full closure of the highway in the area between Rabbit Creek Road and Garden Valley Road. Crews hope to open one lane to travel, with pilot-car guidance, by mid-day today (Thursday, Aug. 14).
Vehicles cannot get from Lowman to Idaho City at present because of the closure.
