850 West Road reopens near Burley, Interstate 84 lane reopened in work zone
BURLEY—Following a two-month closure in the aftermath of a fatal crash June 13, repairs to the 850 West Road overpass over Interstate 84 west of Burley have been completed, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The roadway reopened today (Thursday, Aug. 14). Additionally, one lane of I-84 closed during those repairs has reopened, with speed reductions removed from the work zone.

The closure and repairs followed the crash of a semi-truck that drove off the roadway, leveled 200 feet of guardrail, destroyed a concrete bridge pier and cracked a bridge pier cap. 850 West Road has been closed to all traffic since the crash, which claimed the life of Harold Gow of Missoula, Mont.

ITD initiated an expedited contracting process to complete repairs and open the road. The initial cost of repairs was state-funded, until the cost is recovered from the driver’s insurance. The damaged guardrail was replaced in June.

Braun-Jensen Inc., of Payette, was the contractor for the approximately $200,000 project.
