New eastbound on-ramp at Gowen opens this weekend, ahead of schedule
BOISE – The Interstate 84 Gowen Road Interchange replacement project will reach a key milestone this week when the new eastbound on-ramp opens this weekend, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced. Crews have been working around the clock since the old on-ramp was closed in late July, and completed the new on-ramp two weeks ahead of schedule.
The new on-ramp will be wider, longer and have more room for merging.
“ITD is pleased to see this project moving forward at a swift pace,” said Merrill Sharp, ITD Project Manager. “With the new on-ramp now complete, the next step will be to rebuild the eastbound off-ramp, which we expect will go just as smoothly.”
The work-zone speed limit is 25 mph on Gowen Road, 55 mph on I-84 and 45 mph on the I-84 Gowen eastbound off-ramp.

ITD is replacing the interchange with one that will accommodate more traffic on I-84 and Gowen Road. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2015.
Knife River Corporation, of Boise, is the contractor for the $27 million I-84, Gowen interchange project.
