GOOD NEWS FOR BOISE STATE, TRAVELERS: Gowen Road, I-84 ramps will be open tonight (Saturday, Sept. 6)
BOISE – The eastbound Interstate 84 ramps and Gowen Road will be open tonight (Saturday, Sept. 6), as crews completed placing all eight girders for the new interchange bridge Friday night. This is good news for travelers, and especilly those driving to and from the home Boise State football game tonight who won't have to navigate around the closure.
The Gowen Road Interchange is being replaced to accommodate more traffic
and improve safety. Construction is expected to be completed in late
2015.
Each new girder is 171 feet long, seven feet tall and weighs 174,000 pounds. The Idaho Transportation Department announced that construction crews will begin to tie rebar, form the bridge deck and place concrete on the deck over the next month.
ITD reminds drivers to slow down and pay attention in the work zone. The speed limit is 55 mph on I-84 and 25 mph on Gowen Road.
Knife River Corporation, of Boise, is the contractor for this $27 million project.
