U.S. 26 road work beginning west of Gooding on Monday
GOODING – Work will begin on Monday (Sept. 15) to resurface about five miles of U.S. 26 between the Malad River and Gooding, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The project will apply an asphalt overlay between mileposts 145 and 150 and is expected to improve smoothness and increase life expectancy to the roadway. With a passing test strip, the contractor will begin the full-width paving project on Monday beginning at Gooding and working west.
During the paving project, the roadway will be reduced to one lane. During work hours – 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday – drivers should watch for flaggers and a pilot car will be in operation. Traffic delays of 15 minutes may be experienced and a 13-foot width restriction will be in effect.
Drivers are reminded to watch for construction equipment entering and exiting the work area and to be cautious of uneven pavement until the conclusion of the project. Drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route.
Idaho Sand and Gravel, of Jerome, is the contractor for the $1.2 million roadway project. The paving work is expected to be completed by the end of September. The asphalt overlay will include a chip seal coat to follow during the summer of 2015.
