New traffic pattern for a week on Chinden near HP while crews repair manhole failure
BOISE - Repairs to a failed manhole cover will cause a new traffic pattern for the next week on Chinden Boulevard between Cloverdale Road and the entrance to Hewlett-Packard, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The manhole failure was discovered Friday and temporary asphalt was applied Saturday. Crews need to pour concrete to reseal the manhole opening, and it requires a full week to properly cure before traffic is allowed back on it.
Traffic will be restricted to two eastbound and two westbound lanes in this area, with the inside eastbound lane shifted around the manhole area while work is performed, starting tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 18) after the morning commute.
The concrete around the manhole had failed and the "seating" was no longer holding, allowing the cover to shift with traffic, potentially creating a two-foot opening if the manhole cover came off altogether.
