Expect delays on Idaho 55 near Snake River Bridge outside of Marsing

BOISE - Drivers should expect intermittent delays on Idaho 55 just outside of Marsing, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced. Lanes are being restricted to provide crews a work zone for drilling the subsurface of the roadway, part of soil testing to provide information for the design of the foundations for a new bridge.

Lane restrictions were put in place Monday morning (Sept. 15) on Idaho 55 near the Snake River Bridge and will continue through the week. One lane will remain open in each direction and flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

After routine inspections several years ago, the transportation department determined the bridge needed to be replaced.

This work marks the first major activity of ITD’s plans to design and replace the bridge, which likely will happen in the spring or summer of 2017.

“Over the next several months, ITD will be conducting outreach with the Marsing community to gather input about the design of the new Snake River Bridge,” said Mark Campbell, ITD project manager. “The project is in the very early stages of design. Final decisions have not yet been made.”
