Community invited to offer comments on Broadway Bridge replacement project

BOISE – An open house will be held next week to gather public input on preliminary plans to replace the Broadway Bridge in downtown Boise, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The open house will be Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Washington Group Plaza (720 Park Blvd., Boise) from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The transportation department announced its intent to rebuild the Broadway Bridge in mid-2012. After routine inspections, it was determined the existing bridge, which was built in 1956, is showing signs of wear. The project includes replacing the bridge over the Boise River, adding more lanes, improving safety for pedestrians and bicyclists, and enhancing connectivity to the Greenbelt.

Over the past year, the transportation department has hosted a series of workshops to involve the community in the design process of this project. Input gathered from the workshops has been used to develop the preliminary plans that will be presented at next week's open house.

Materials from the open house will be available at ITD’s project website from Thursday, Oct. 2, through Friday, Oct. 17. In addition, ITD will host live online chat sessions where participants can have their questions answered by the project manager. To participate in the online meeting and live chat sessions, visit www.itd.idaho.gov/broadwaybridge.

The open house, online public meeting and live online chat sessions will provide the public with several opportunities to learn about the Broadway Bridge replacement project, see preliminary design options and provide comments.

Public input will help ITD finalize design plans for the project. Construction is expected to begin late next year.
