Work started this week on Middle Fork Boise River Road repairs

BOISE - Work began this week on a project to reopen the Middle Fork Boise River Road near Atlanta, Idaho, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The road is the only access route for winter travel to the small mountain community of Atlanta.

A road closure from the Loftus Hot Springs and Campground to Forest Road 376 is expected to last for 60 days for all traffic during construction. Traffic using other portions of the Middle Fork road should be aware of construction vehicles.

Flash flooding and heavy rains on Aug. 5 washed out the Middle Fork Boise River Road near Slide Gulch.

On Sept. 9, U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced that $500,000 was available to help cover the cost of repairs.

The Local Highway Technical Assistance Council, in cooperation with the Idaho Transportation Department, is providing project oversight. This includes coordination with the U.S. Forest Service and the Atlanta Highway District.

The repairs are expected to cost $800,000.

Those with questions are asked to contact Todd Bartolome, who is with the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council. Bartolome can be reached at (208) 344-0565.
