UPDATE: McCall's Lardo Bridge to close for approximately a month starting Oct. 15
BOISE – Lardo Bridge over North Fork Payette River at the outlet to Payette Lake in McCall on Idaho 55 will close for approximately one month starting Wednesday (Oct. 15) while the existing bridge is demolished and the new bridge is slid into place, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The lateral slide, accelerated construction method being used on Lardo
Bridge, is the first to occur in Idaho by ITD. This method reduces a full
closure of the bridge by months.
Traffic will be detoured to Boydstun Street and Deinhard Lane. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained (see attached map):
Access west of Lardo Bridge:
From downtown McCall: Take Idaho 55 to Deinhard Lane, turn right and follow Deinhard to Boydstun Street.
From south of McCall: Take Idaho 55 to Deinhard Lane, turn left and follow Deinhard to Boydstun Street.
Access east of Lardo Bridge:
From north of McCall: Take Idaho 55 to Boydstun Street, turn right and follow Boydstun Street to Deinhard Lane.
From south of McCall: Take Idaho 55 into downtown McCall.
Earlier this month, six 157-foot girders for the new bridge, weighing 197,000 lbs. apiece, were set on the temporary structure. Crews are currently driving permanent piles, installing rebar and constructing the bridge deck and overhangs.
Later this month, crews will begin demolishing the old Lardo Bridge. Once the old bridge is removed, the new bridge will be slid into place using an accelerated construction technique called a lateral slide.
The Idaho Transportation Department is replacing the 83-year old Lardo Bridge on the southwest shore of Payette Lake. Ralph L. Wadsworth and Lochner used ITD's conceptual design to complete the bridge design and build a new bridge that will accommodate one lane of traffic in each direction along with bicycle and pedestrian facilities on each side of the bridge.
The construction/design contract is for $3.64 million.
