I-84 eastbound crossover will be in place by Monday-morning commute (Oct. 13)

MERIDIAN – Crews will work over the weekend to put a new traffic pattern in place on Interstate 84 between Meridian and Five Mile roads, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

The eastbound crossover traffic pattern is anticipated to be in place by the morning commute Monday (Oct. 13). The eastbound crossover lane will be separated from opposing traffic and will not have access to the Eagle Road Interchange. Motorists will need to stay in the right lane to access the Eagle Interchange.

The eastbound lanes between Meridian and Cloverdale roads will be shifted to give crews room to build a new culvert (bridge) under the interstate for Five Mile Creek near the Eagle Interchange. In order to keep three eastbound through lanes open, the far right eastbound lane will be crossed over to the west side of the interstate.

“Due to the elevation difference between east-and westbound I-84, the crossover has to begin further back from where the culvert work is being done,” explained Project Engineer Jayme Coonce. “Because of the elevation difference the crossover must be in place between Meridian and Cloverdale roads.”

The new eastbound traffic pattern follows closely on the heels of a crossover that was put in place on westbound I-84 earlier this week. The crossovers in both directions between Meridian and Five Mile will be in place until this winter. Crews are working to rebuild the outside lanes and shoulders of westbound I-84. Weather permitting, the same type of work also will be done on the eastbound side of the interstate.
