Eastbound I-84 crossover pattern near Gowen to be removed and off-ramp opening

BOISE -- Interstate 84 traffic will be shifted into new configurations every day next week (Nov. 3–10), as crews remove the crossover traffic pattern on eastbound I-84 between the Eisenman and Gowen interchanges, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Work is weather dependent.

Starting Monday (Nov. 3), I-84 near the Gowen Interchange will have one lane open on the eastbound side of the interstate and one lane open on the westbound side. Click here for a map.

The crossover pattern was put in place several months ago so crews could construct improvements on the eastbound side of the Gowen Road Interchange. Work accomplished over the summer included tearing down and rebuilding the I-84 eastbound bridge over Gowen Road, widening the I-84 railroad bridge, and constructing the new eastbound on- and off-ramps.

“Completing the eastbound I-84 bridges and interchange ramps is a significant milestone for the project,” said ITD Project Coordinator Merrill Sharp. “ITD expects the next phase, which includes constructing the westbound half of the new interchange, will go just as smoothly.”

Next spring/summer, another crossover pattern is planned for I-84 at Gowen as crews remove and rebuild the westbound I-84 bridge over Gowen Road.

Also on Monday night (Nov. 3), the eastbound off-ramp will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists may access Gowen Road from the Broadway Avenue Interchange via Production Street during the overnight ramp closure. Traffic will shift onto the new permanent off-ramp by Saturday morning. Click here for a detour map.

Drivers need to slow down when driving through the work zone and pay attention to changes in lane restrictions.

Construction updates will be sent via email and posted on the project website at www.itd.idaho.gov/GowenInterchange.
